The Traditional Planets
In the field of Astrology, the planets are divided into groups.
The traditional seven, which are detectable with the naked eye and made up the solar system until 1780, are the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
The Sun describes an essential part of us; the Moon determines what is familiar to us, as well as our habits and instinctive reactions; Mercury governs how we communicate with others; Venus describes what we like and what we cling to; Mars determines our impulsiveness, aggressiveness and survival instincts; Jupiter rules expansion and growth, both literally and metaphorically; and Saturn, finally, determines restrictions, rules and limits.

The modern planets
The last three planets in our solar system are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, whose existence has only been known for a short time.
Uranus was discovered in 1781, Neptune in 1846 and Pluto in 1930.
Uranus rules disruption, revolution and radical change; Neptune controls confusion, compassion and transcendence, and Pluto determines deep psychological change, transition and what we consider taboo.

We all have these ten planets in our birth chart, which means that we express our essence according to the signs we are in.
For example, someone born with Mercury in Gemini
(very lively and conservative) will communicate very differently than someone with Mercury in Capricorn (which makes them shy away from serious issues).
